We recently wrapped up a stunning showcase project right in Wildwood, New Jersey, collaborating with a top-tier local pool contractor based out of North Wildwood. The goal was to take a brand-new pool installation and elevate the entire footprint with a high-end, custom perimeter bluestone pool deck.
The Anatomy of a Premium Bluestone Installation
A luxury outdoor space is only as good as the foundation beneath it. For this coastal property, our crew handled the entire process from raw earth to the final, immaculate joint sand.
Step 1: Engineering a Stable Sub-Base
Coastal soil is notoriously sandy and prone to shifting. To ensure this heavy natural stone would never settle or crack, our team furnished and installed a brand-new, heavily tamped-out under base. Proper compaction is the secret to longevity in beach environments.
Step 2: Crafting the Cement Mortar Bed
Once the structural under base was perfectly graded and compacted, we laid a traditional, robust cement mortar bed. Setting the natural stone in a true mortar bed guarantees a perfectly level finish and keeps the individual tiles locked permanently in place.
Step 3: Laying the Bluestone Tiles & Polymeric Grout
We meticulously installed premium, variegated bluestone tiles around the perimeter of the pool. To seal the deal, we finished the joints with advanced polymeric grout sand. Unlike regular sand, polymeric sand activates with water to form a powerful, flexible bond that keeps weeds out and prevents ants from undermining the stone.
Step 4: The Perfect Finish with an Artificial Turf Inlay
To bridge the gap between high-end masonry and modern landscape architecture, we integrated a striking artificial turf inlay. The vibrant green turf creates a gorgeous geometric contrast against the deep blues and earthy grays of the natural bluestone, giving the entire backyard a resort-style aesthetic.
